The Access Scholarship Program
Who is eligible, how a family applies, and how awards are decided.
WHO IT IS FOR
Open to any young athlete in the Kansas City service area with demonstrated financial need. A family does not need to be affiliated with Roots Volleyball Academy, and the sport played is not restricted. Awards are based on financial need only.
WHAT AN AWARD COVERS
An award may cover registration and club fees, plus equipment and gear. There is no fixed cap: each award amount is decided case-by-case based on the family's documented need and the funds available.
HOW TO APPLY
Families apply through the Foundation's online application, available on the Foundation website and linked in the offer letter for Roots families. The application asks for a 500-word statement of financial need and a list of what the funds would be used toward. A family that cannot create an online account should contact the Foundation directly at mcknightmeshach@gmail.com to apply another way.
HOW DECISIONS ARE MADE
Every application is reviewed and voted on by the full Foundation board. There is no fixed turnaround time for a decision; families are notified by email once the board has voted. An application that arrives after a season's scholarship funds are already committed will be held and reviewed for the next available funding cycle rather than denied outright.
PRIVACY
Applications are visible only to Foundation administrators. Coaches and other families do not have access to any applicant's information.
